APPLE VS. FVI AAA
Thesis Statement:
“Apple is doing the right thing in challenging the federal court ruling requiring that it comply.” (5-6)
Points of Argument:
“Apple has already given the F.B.I. data from the phone that was backed up and stored on it’s iCloud service.” (29-31) This supports the author's argument because they are trying to say that the F.B.I. doesn’t need to unlock the phone because Apple has already given the information from the iCloud account. I believe that there could still be hidden information on the phone that wasn’t backed up or stored. Would it really hurt if we at least tried to receive more possible information from the terrorist attack? I mean, what’s more important? Our privacy or our lives?
“If Apple is required to help the F.B.I. in this case, courts could require it to use this software in future investigations or order it to create new software to fit new needs. It is also theoretically possible that hackers could steal the software from the company’s servers.” (43-47) I think this also supports the author’s argument because they respond in the second sentence with “It is also theoretically possible that hackers could steal the software from the company’s servers” which is telling the reader that they are worried about this happening. I believe that it’s possible that it will get hacked but why are people so afraid? I think that the only people that are really afraid of their phones being hacked are the ones who have something to hide because it’s not like any other phone brand has these security policies. I think Apple is making this into a much bigger deal than it should be.
“There are certainly other ways for law enforcement agencies to collect evidence. They already have the power to get data stored on online services like iCloud and Google’s Gmail through search warrants. And they can get records of phone calls like Verizon and AT&T.” (48-53) Here they are supporting their argument because they are saying that the F.B.I. doesn’t need Apple to unlock the phone because they have access to iCloud, Gmail, and maybe get access to their phone calls. When the author says, “And they can get records of phone calls like Verizon and AT&T” they don’t say that the phone companies are able to get records of texts, contacts, or anything along those line, just calls. He also doesn’t know what phone carrier Farook had or if that carrier is able to get records of calls, texts, contacts, etc.
Is it a solid argument? Do you agree? Why or why not?
I believe that this is not a solid argument because the author goes back and forth stating facts and opinions from both sides of the argument. I think this makes the argument not as strong as it could have been because the author was in the middle, in an argument I believe you need to stick to one side so that your argument is clear throughout the whole thing. I disagree with the author’s argument because they don’t have solid facts or proof about a few things and everything they talked about were their own opinions. I believe that the F.B.I. should have the right to open any phone as long as it’s for forensic use and if someone were to hack into the “master key”, only people hiding something should be worried. In our society, people are constantly sharing what happens in their everyday lives on social media. Do you think that social media is secure? Absolutely not. I get that people want privacy, but again, what’s more important? Our privacy or our lives?
Vocab Words:
-Magistrate ~ a civil officer charged with the administration of the law
-Subvert ~ to overthrow (something established or existing)
-Precedent ~ Law. a legal decision or form of proceeding serving as an authoritative rule or pattern in future similar or analogous cases
-Undermine ~ to injure or destroy by insidious activity or imperceptible stages, sometimes tending toward a sudden dramatic effect
-Proliferation ~ the growth or production of cells by multiplication of parts
Reflection:
Reading this article got me very fired up, I strongly support the F.B.I. in what they are trying to do because they are trying to protect us but people only see the bad in this. The only thing people are worrying about is their privacy because they weren’t in San Bernardino when the attack happened. I honestly believe that those people who live in San Bernardino and had to go through that experience or lose loved ones want as much information as they can get from that cell phone. Along with what I said previously, I also think that people think their privacy is such a big deal when social media shows everyone who you are and anyone can see you. Anyone. If you think about it, it’s way worse than the possibility of having you phone being hacked. Even if your phone ends up getting hacked, isn’t your life already out there for everyone to see?

This assignment was called a triple A (AAA) which stands for Analyzing Authors Argument. For this assignment, we were given a piece of text about an authors argument against or for something and we needed to find the authors thesis statement, and three points of argument that supports the thesis. We also had to share our opinion on if the argument was good or bad, five vocabulary words from the text with their definitions, and finally, a reflection. This piece of text was about an author who agreed on how Apple was refusing to give phone information to the F.B.I. that was from a terrorist's phone.
When finishing this assignment, I learned how strongly one can feel about there opinion because I believe that the opinion I had about this topic was very strong and the majority of everyone in our class had the opposite opinion which made me try harder to put even more information that would be convincing for someone.

REFLECTION #4
So far during the comic book project I have been most frustrated with the fact that I’m not able to find certain pictures on the internet that I have envisioned in my mind and I have also been frustrated because this project, I feel like, is a very long process and we should be given more time. I believe that I am a very diligent worker and I can get anything done on time whether it’s a short or long period of time, but for this project, I feel a lot more stressed about time. I have been finishing as much as I can each day, but every time I need to work on something I start getting stressed out because photoshop won’t cooperate with how I want things to look. When I try to look for photos online that I can use as a reference, there is always a variety of pictures but none of the faces or bodies look the same. This becomes extremely difficult when I need to find a certain position I want the character’s to be in because they are either just their face or superheroes.
Whenever I feel stressed out with photoshop when trying to finish things in time, I like to take short breaks to work on something else whether it be reading or doing math. This benefits me from getting stressed because my mind is focused on something completely different and I don’t find myself thinking about it whenever I’m doing these things. When I am unable to find acceptable references for characters, I try to find different features from different images that I can put together. For example, if I want to draw a picture of someone running, I find a worthy image of a body, and use the same face and hair for every drawing of that person. So far these two solutions have helped me tremendously and I hope my frustration level won’t increase even more in the future.

For this assignment it's pretty self explanatory, we were given a question that we needed to write a reflection about. This particular one was a reflection on how we felt about our frustration throughout the comic book project.
After finishing this reflection, I learned that when I get frustrated, I tend to keep it to myself and deal with it alone because I realized that when I'm frustrated about something, no one else around me knows and I usually take care of it by myself.

POLITICAL SPECTRUM GRAPH
This assignment was called a Political Spectrum Graph which was essentially a chart with two sides and a middle that represented liberal on the left, moderate in the middle, and conservative on the right. Before we were given this assignment, our teacher had us each take a survey, which at the end showed us where we stood in the political spectrum. After we each filled out the survey online, we were given this assignment and we needed to create a graph to help us better understand the political spectrum. We were told we could look up examples to help us with our own and I chose the ones that stood out the most and were easy enough to understand.
When I was finished with this assignment, I had a much better understanding of the differences between democrats and republican and I also learned that there was a middle that stood between the two and if you stood in the middle, you were both moderate, and a centrist.
