SCIENTIFIC SHOWCASE
For this assignment, we needed to research about a current scientific event that exists in our world, find the social implications to that event, and organize it into a magazine article. For my scientific event I chose ocean acidification and learned about how this could immensely affect our coral reef because it could disappear in the next twenty years unless we drastically reduce carbon emissions.
When I finished this assignment, I learned that our coral reef is more important to our Earth than people might think. If the coral reef would eventually disappear due to carbon emissions, many marine organisms would also die because if there is no coral, there is no habitats for the organisms to survive in.

MICROSCOPE PROJECT
Artist Statement:
My name is Abby and the microscopic picture I took was the inside of a dandelion flower. The significance of my picture was to portray how something so common could look so unusual. These yellow dandelion flowers can be seen all around us growing from boring old weeds but once you look inside a little closer, you will be amazed. I never knew that something so ordinary and plain could look so incredible.
Microscope description:
Our microscope was constructed with a piece of wood, two pieces of plexiglass, nine nuts, three bolts, five washers, and two wing nuts. Once we got the lens, we put it into one of the holes in the larger piece of plexiglass. After that, we assembled the whole thing using all of our materials. To focus the object in the microscope you would need to turn the two wing nuts different directions to move the small piece of plexi glass up and down. In the end, the magnification in our lens came out to be 5.6x.
The purpose of our microscope was to photograph things we see in our everyday life and examine them closer. The microscope helps us examine what small objects look like up close and it can also help make an object that is zoomed in with a camera, clearer. While building and working on this, I learned how to drill through wood and plexi glass without it cracking, how to get the perfect focus point, and how to calculate the magnification of the lense we used.

STRANGER THAN SCIENCE PROJECT
For this project, we needed to create a comic book that was the same, similar, or completely different than our stories we wrote in humanities. This comic book is similar to my story and the only difference is that in my story, an alien doesn't walk out of the UFO. When I created this comic book, I originally wanted to draw it out and then scan it into photoshop, however, in order to make things colored in photo shop, I would need to trace everything anyways, so after drawing one full page and scanning it into photoshop, I created the rest of the pages from a blank canvas in photoshop.
For the second part of the project, after we finished creating the comic, we needed to choose a partner who finished around the same time as us and we chose two products to create together. For the first product, my partner and I made a paper mache UFO that was from my story, and a paper mache Drone from my partners story which we both worked on together. For the second product, we both made laser cut covers for each of our comic book covers which we also worked on together.
